Close to 25,000 Left Without Electricity in South-East Queensland and Victorian Regions Following Intense Weather Systems

Approximately twenty-five thousand households in southeastern Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday morning after intense storm systems swept through the region, bringing powerful gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Substantial Ice Stones and Extensive Impact

Residents witnessed large ice chunks measuring up to 7cm in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that different parts across Queensland had been hit with significant hail.

Utility workers were attempting to repair electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units working to address the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Weather Woes

Meanwhile, nearly 1,000 households in Victoria also encountered electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area experienced its most precipitation in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services responded to 598 requests for assistance across the state, mostly for property damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of the state's eastern regions this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

Tomorrow was predicted as the most rainy day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential expected across various areas of both states.

Safety Concern

Health officials alerted that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.
