Micky van de Ven Double Halts The Toffees' Run at New Stadium

Micky van de Ven scored twice as Tottenham extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the end of last season.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a handful of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine saves to ensure the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing the match official to review the score on the screen and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates Thomas Frank's side up to third in the division, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and sit six points ahead of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender fulfils role at each end of pitch

Following a drab midweek performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a only attempts on goal, Frank chose the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have faded somewhat and fans headed to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a major worry for the manager, but their attacking woes are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of established centre-forwards - had netted just one league goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having room and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, too, was unable to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. Most of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly delivered threatening balls into the Spurs box.
